A Brief History of Quasar (SBVAA website)
- v3.0.11: Launch of the new site design. Continued work on fixing small layout issues. (12-23-2008)
- v3.0.10: Fixed a layout problem with long pages like clubinfo and starparties. (8-16-2008)
- v3.0.09: Started the updating of content with the Starparties file. Changed the sidebar a bit to remove the APOD picture. (6-3-2008)
- v3.0.08: After several attempts to incorporate the calendar application into the main design with php includes and not completely working, change to using the iframe tag. Using iframe, FireFox would not display the height correctly until I made all parent elements larger than the iframe's height. Reconsidering the layout of the site and thinking of going back to using frames since a majority of the site's layout elements are static and do not need to be reloaded every time a new page is clicked on. (1/10/2008-1/30/2008)
- v3.0.07: Added PHP scripting to the header file to automate current tab highlighting. (1/2/2008)
- v3.0.06: Modified the Google Custom Search to a single line using the NASA site Visible Earth as an example. Made it possible to place the search box into the navigation line. Tweaked CSS to make the design work for both Internet Explorer and FireFox. (12/2007)
- v3.0.05: Added the Jon Design's SmoothGallery as the photo rotation element on the index page. The original concept come from the LivingOS UPSILON WordPress Theme. Still need to add SBVAA specific photos. (12/2007)
- v3.0.04: Major work on the sidebar. Redesigned the sidebar into a PHP included file which then lead to redesigning all the layout elements into PHP include statements. Used my Google account to create/manage a custom Google search box. Included the supplied Google search code into the sidebar but the element was way too big. Continued to add the News RSS reader from Google AJAX Search and Feed Wizard, re-purposed my Sun & Moon sidebar element which was previously designed for WordPress and added the Astronomy Picture of the Day element from Google Gadgets. Left room to re-purpose Steve's calendar element. (12/2007)
- v3.0.03: Incorporated NASA images into the header. Used the script found at http://www.hypergurl.com to provide the random image rotation. Plan to use club member images after the site goes live. (12/2007)
- v3.0.02: Incorporated a horizontal menu bar from http://css.maxdesign.com.au/listamatic/horizontal03.htm. Continued to tweak the overall layout and spacing. (12/2007)
- v3.0.01: Worked on the 50th Anniversary image for use in this new design and previous v2.1 design. (12/2007)
- v3.0: Modified the basic design layout (header, content, sidebar, footer) based on previous table-centric design created a couple years ago. Briefly explored using WordPress blogging application for the site. Came to the conclusion that the WordPress themes and overall structure was too restrictive thinking in terms of nested page content. (12/2007)
- v2.1: This site served as our main site for many years.
- v1: The first SBVAA site originally designed in 1999. Internet Archive
